OpenAI unveils Sora: the AI that turns your text into videos

On 9 December 2024, OpenAI launched Sora, an artificial intelligence model capable of generating videos from text descriptions. This tool opens up new possibilities for video content production, without traditional filming or editing.

Sora Turbo: from text description to video

Sora makes it possible to turn a descriptive text into a realistic or stylised video. The current version, Sora Turbo, optimises latency for faster generation and produces high-definition videos, up to 1080p, with a maximum length of 20 seconds.

For professionals and content creators: uses and limitations

ChatGPT Plus subscribers get 50 priority videos per month, equivalent to 1,000 credits. ChatGPT Pro subscribers enjoy unlimited generations, as well as access to enhanced-resolution tools.

Every generated video includes a watermark and C2PA metadata to identify its AI origin. Explicit or violent content is prohibited under Sora’s usage policy.

Still-limited availability in Europe

Although Sora is already available in many countries, its rollout in Europe remains gradual due to the regulatory framework. Access is expected to expand to Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe over the coming months.

Sora versus the competition

OpenAI isn’t alone in this space : Google and Meta are also developing AI video generation tools. Sora stands out for its direct accessibility and specific features, in a fast-evolving generative AI sector.

The launch of Sora marks a significant step in AI-assisted video content production, opening up new creative possibilities for businesses and content creators.
